Yellow Bomber.
This 1979 Suzuki DR370—now known as the Yellow Bomber—has a bit of a story behind it. What started as a simple Kijiji find turned into a fun small-world moment when I later discovered the previous owner had documented the bike online years earlier. It’s a future project that will get cleaned up, improved, and brought back to life while keeping the character of this classic dual-sport. 🏍️

History
This is my 1979 Suzuki DR370, which I picked up sometime around 2017 or 2018. I found it on Kijiji and noticed right away that the seller had already gone through the effort of making it street legal. That alone made it interesting enough that I decided to jump on it.
A couple years later a funny coincidence happened. My sister called me from BC and asked, “Hey, did you buy a yellow bike from someone in Medicine Hat?” Apparently my brother-in-law’s childhood friend was visiting, and somehow the conversation turned to this yellow DR370. As it turns out, that childhood friend was the very same guy I bought the bike from. Small world.
While researching the DR370 online I came across an old post about someone converting one to street legal use (https://steemit.com/motorcycle/@oldschoolrepair/dr370
). The article caught my eye, and after reading through it I realized something pretty funny—it was the exact same bike. Seeing the bike’s earlier life documented online was a cool surprise and added a bit of history to it.
Project details
The plan for the Yellow Bomber is to clean the bike up and modernize a few key systems while keeping the rugged character of the old DR370.
A big part of the project will be redoing the electrical system. The stator and charging setup will be updated so the bike can reliably support better lighting and accessories. Along with that, the wiring will be cleaned up and simplified to make the bike easier to maintain.
The bike will also get a proper speedometer setup and possibly a tachometer as well. New handlebar controls will replace the aging originals, and the lighting will be upgraded to LED for better visibility and reliability.
Another part of the project will be experimenting with a custom exhaust setup. The goal is to keep the bike simple and lightweight while giving it a bit more personality.
At some point along the way I also plan to try my hand at painting the tank with some Yellow Bomber branding. It will likely be my first attempt at doing custom paint work myself, so we’ll see how it turns out.
Overall this project is about refreshing the bike, improving its usability, and turning it into a fun, reliable dual-sport while keeping the spirit of the original machine.
